Cursillo
Cursillo is a movement of the Church, providing a method by which Christians are empowered to grow through prayer, study and action and enabled to share God’s love with everyone.
Cursillo is the Spanish for a short course originated in the 1940's in the Roman Catholic Church in Spain. It was formed to encourage reconciliation following the civil war and has since spread to many countries, and to other denominations including the Anglican church.
The Cursillo method works by forming groups of Christians who live out their faith in their family, neighbourhood, parish or workplace providing them with support and encouragement in this, with the focus on prayer, study and action. This is done through a combination of small local groups (Group Reunions) complemented by less frequent area gatherings (Ultreyas).
Cursillo, which is endorsed by Bishop John, emphasises the ministry of the laity alongside the clergy and members aspire to be at the service of the pastoral plans in their own church. At St John’s our members are actively involved in Forward Together.
All our members adopt a proactive approach to their involvement in St John’s and serve in a whole host of ways. We continue to lead the monthly 12 o’clock Baptism and Family Service which offers a warm welcome in an informal atmosphere. This especially suits families who are not regular church goers but wish to bring their child into the Lord’s family.
We would encourage you to pray for the group and to give prayerful consideration as to whether you would like to attend a Cursillo weekend.
